The Ministry of Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)

The Ministry of Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)

Presented by: Ann Aycock, Jackie Norton & Asbury ESL Team

Workshop description:

This workshop will include a discussion concerning the reasons and importance of offering an ESL ministry in your church and practical suggestions on how to begin and how to organize an ESL ministry.  You will experience beginning, intermediate and advanced lessons taught by our ESL teachers and suggested materials to use will be discussed.  You will also learn how to incorporate through weekly classes how to share God's word and His message of hope to all people.  We will touch on how to teach English on short term mission trips.  Additionally, we will pray together for our churches' ESL ministries.

Time: Saturday 9 to 11 a.m.

Bio: The teachers of ESL see the need to reach out to those from other nationalities and cultures who are living right here in our own community.  They desire to share God's love with our neighbors and to help them in their English skills.  Although no one on this team has a degree in teaching ESL, most have an education degree (which is not required to teach in this ministry).  The ESL Team has equipped themselves to teach these English classes by being locally trained in ESL workshops and by participating in continuing education experiences.
