Workshops
Dispelling stereotypical myths about the homeless…you might be surprised!
Presented by: John Gaylor and Gary Suders
Workshop description:
A delineation of the various levels of homelessness, and the challenges facing each one, will be explored. You’ll hear from a number of resource agencies that this ministry team leans on and partners with in the Huntsville and surrounding area. Learn the “DOs” and “DON’Ts” of working with the street homeless, and enjoy the anecdotal stories and examples that come with both. A time will also be set aside for personal prayer and meditation.
Time: Friday 2 to 4 p.m.
Bio: Gary Suders is a native of Pennsylvania and retired Logistics Management Specialist with over 33 years of experience as a U.S. Army civilian. As a lay person, his gifts and graces are expressed through hospitality. Suders is actively involved with all of Asbury’s Food Service outreaches, but he actually serves as one of the lead coordinators for their Homeless Tent City Ministry. John Gaylor, a native Tennessean, has worked with the homeless in various capacities since 1997 and is the other coordinator for this ministry. He and a team of church members make weekly visits to Huntsville’s homeless campsites, building and maintaining relationships. The hot, nutritious meals prepared by the kitchen team serve as a gesture of kindness and open the door for the visitation team to witness and pray with our homeless friends.
